It is generally believed that vines have been growing in this region since ancient roman times. Some records, however, tell that serious viticulture only started during the 11th century when the land was under Benedictine and Cistercian powers. It was under their patronage that viticulture really flourished in Lavaux.
The Chasselas also known as the Chasselas Blanc is the type of grape that is grown in Lavaux. They said that the wine made from this is dry and very fruity though there are some varieties across the region.

The vines basking in the golden hour sunlight and the natural reflected light off the surface of Lake Geneva are a sight to see. There are many hiking trails which you can explore while hiking in the wine country. One particular trail goes from Saint-Saphorin all the way to Lutry. You can take a leisurely stroll through the vineyards while basking under a temperate sun, making images as you walk. The golden hour, about an hour before sundown is a nice time to make images.
